Well Control for Completions Engineers
Duration: 3 days
Delivery: Classroom based
Course Overview
The course incorporates a blend of theory, exercises and open discussion covering a range of topics that build on the basic well control theory that participants already possess. The focus of the course is on being able to visualise the well, recognising the barriers in place and performing basic calculations, to improve understanding of the interrelationship between surface and downhole pressures during well control operations. This better equips candidates to evaluate non-routine well kill operations and develops confidence in identifying the performance limitations of each barrier element. The course material is reinforced through a series of exercises and calculations.
Audience
The course is intended for those who have some industry experience and either hold a current Drilling or Well Intervention well control certificate, or have been accredited in the past. It is aimed at Completions and Well Intervention Engineers but may also be of interest to Well Engineers who wish to develop further insight into well intervention well control. This would be of particular relevance to graduate engineers and early career professionals in preparing for their Well Competency Programme exams or just to supplement their certified well control knowledge.
Outcome
At the end of the course, participants will have a greater understanding of Well Intervention / Cased Hole pressure control equipment and be able to identify the relevant barriers in place and determine the MAASP for each annulus. The Engineers will also be able to perform essential calculations for various well kill methods including volumetric, coil, forward / reverse circulation and killing in deviated wells and/or with tapered completions.
Certificate
A Certificate of Attendance is issued on completion of the course
