Well Control for Well Engineers

Duration

3 days

Delivery

Classroom based

Course Overview

The course incorporates a blend of theory, exercises and open discussion covering a range of topics that build on the basic well control theory that participants already possess. The focus of the course is on being able to visualise the well and perform basic calculations, to gain insight into the evolution of well pressures. This gives candidates a better understanding of non-routine well control events and develops confidence in interpreting wellbore pressures. The course material is reinforced through a series of exercises and calculations.

Audience

The course intended is for those who have some industry experience and either hold a current well control certificate or have been accredited in the past. It is aimed at well engineers who wish to develop further insight into well pressures. This would be of particular relevance to graduate engineers and early career professionals to supplement their certified well control knowledge.

Outcome

At the end of the course, participants will have a greater understanding and be able to perform essential calculations to investigate simple gas behaviour, annulus pressures, off-bottom well control (bull heading, volumetric well control, combined volumetric stripping), well control with a tapered string, well control in deviated wells and simultaneous kicks and losses.

Certificate

A Certificate of Attendance is issued on completion of the course
